Shop Locations
The first CWA Gift Shop in Hobart opened in 1942 in rented rooms located at 44 Murray Street, followed by a move to Mathers Lane in 1949. In 1951 a building at 165 Elizabeth Street was purchased at a cost of seven thousand, five hundred pounds. (approx. $15.000.00) and within 10 years the building was completely free of debt. Information has been given that 165 Elizabeth Street was originally a butcher’s shop and a hotel before purchase by the CWA.
CWA members bought their goods into the shop to sell to help their families through tough times. The CWA Hobart Gift Shop celebrated its 80th year in 2022.
The CWA Gift Shop in Hobart has many subscribers who sell handcraft, produce, cakes, jam, flowers, craft and special occasion gifts, amongst other things. This iconic shop, alongside our other shops across the State has amassed a vast network of local, national, and international customers.
Thanks to the dedicated team of volunteers and our shop Managers who keep our CWA shops ticking over, even in difficult times.
Our very first branch in Hobart still delights customers over 80 years since it first opened its doors in 1942.

Trading hours: Monday to Friday 9.00 am - 3.00 pm.
Saturdays in December 9.00 am - 3.00 pm.
Market Stalls - If you aren’t situated near one of our shops you might be able to catch us at one of our regular market stalls.
Market stalls hosted by CWA in Tasmania branches are held around the state at various times and locations.
Presence at these markets may change according to seasonality and member availability.
CWA stalls may also be found at your local country show or larger events such as AGFEST.
